Eyebrow transplantation is suitable for a wide range of patients. The key candidacy criteria relate to donor hair availability and the cause of brow loss rather than any rigid demographic profile.
A small donor area at the back of the scalp (typically behind the ear) must yield enough fine, single-hair follicular units. Our surgeons assess this at consultation.
Active alopecia areata, thyroid conditions or other systemic causes of hair loss should be medically managed and stable before proceeding.
Understanding that transplanted hair grows at scalp rate (requiring monthly trimming from month 3) and that final results mature over 10–14 months is important.
BrowCraft is most appropriate for patients 22 years and older. There is no upper age limit — patients in their 70s and 80s achieve excellent results.
Active eczema, psoriasis or dermatitis in the brow area may need to be treated and resolved before transplant surgery can be safely performed.

Eyebrow restoration requires a fundamentally different approach from scalp hair transplant. The demands on precision, placement angle and single-hair isolation are dramatically higher — and the aesthetic consequences of any error are immediately visible on the most expressive feature of the face.
Before a single follicle is touched, your surgeon uses our digital facial-mapping protocol to design your ideal brow shape. Working from principles of facial symmetry and golden-ratio proportioning — and critically, from what you want — a precise blueprint is created. Every hair placement is pre-planned on this map.
Donor hair is harvested exclusively from the occipital scalp — typically from a small zone behind and above the ear where the finest, most brow-like follicles are found. Only single-hair follicular units are selected; multi-hair grafts are not used in eyebrow restoration as they create an unnatural density.
The HARRTS FUEsion X™ robotic system assists graft extraction with Computer Vision-guided identification of each follicle and Augmented Reality overlay to guide the surgeon's extraction path — reducing transection rate to under 2% while preserving the donor area's natural appearance.
This is the most technically demanding phase. Micro-slits are created in the recipient brow area at angles between 10–25° — dramatically more acute than scalp hair — with a lateral tilt that matches the direction of natural brow hair growth. The angle and direction vary millimetre by millimetre across the brow.
Each follicle is placed by hand using jeweler-grade implanter pens — never forceps, which risk crushing the graft. The surgeon places each hair individually, checking direction, depth and angle against the pre-designed blueprint at every stage. A typical eyebrow procedure involves 300–800 individual placements.
Before the procedure concludes, your surgeon performs a full symmetry assessment — comparing both brows against the original blueprint, checking for any gaps in density, confirming the arch peak, tail definition and head-of-brow fill. The operating team photographs the result for your post-operative record.
Transplanted follicles retain the genetic programming of their origin — which is the scalp. This means they will grow at scalp rate (approximately 1cm per month), which is faster than native brow hair. From around the 3rd month post-procedure, monthly trimming will be required to maintain your brow shape. This is a routine, simple process — most patients incorporate it into their regular grooming. Your surgeon will demonstrate the correct technique at your post-procedure follow-up.
Understanding exactly what happens on procedure day removes uncertainty and helps you prepare. Here is the full sequence of events from arrival to discharge.
You arrive at your chosen clinic location. Our patient coordinator greets you, reviews your pre-procedure paperwork, and confirms consent documentation. You are offered refreshments and given a clinic orientation.
Your surgeon reviews your pre-designed brow blueprint with you one final time. Adjustments can be made at this stage. Brow shape, arch height, tail position and density are confirmed. Digital photographs are taken for your clinical record.
Local anaesthetic is administered to both the donor area (behind the ear) and the brow recipient areas. A topical numbing agent is applied first, followed by fine-needle injections. The procedure begins only when full numbness is confirmed. Patients experience pressure but no pain during the procedure.
Using the HARRTS FUEsion X™ robotic system and sub-0.8mm micro-punch tools, your surgeon harvests the required number of single-hair follicular units from the donor area. Grafts are immediately placed in a chilled, oxygenated solution to preserve viability. Typical extraction: 300–800 grafts over 60–90 minutes.
While you rest, our clinical team prepares each extracted graft under magnification — trimming excess tissue, confirming graft quality, and sorting units by follicle calibre. This meticulous preparation directly contributes to graft survival rates above 95%.
Your surgeon hand-creates each micro-slit in the brow recipient area — placing them at precise angles (10–25°), depths and directions per the pre-designed blueprint. This phase sets the final direction and pattern of your brow hair growth. It is the most technically demanding step of the procedure.
Each prepared graft is individually placed using jeweler-grade implanter pens. Your surgeon works methodically across the brow — filling density zones, establishing the arch definition, and creating the natural taper at the tail. You may listen to music, a podcast or watch a film during this phase. Typical duration: 90–120 minutes.
Your surgeon performs a full bilateral symmetry review. Post-procedure photographs are taken. The donor area is dressed with a small adhesive dressing. You are given a post-operative care kit containing saline spray, aftercare instructions, and your follow-up appointment details.
You are discharged with written aftercare instructions, emergency contact details, and a pre-arranged follow-up appointment at Day 7. Most patients feel comfortable to travel home unassisted, though we recommend having a driver available. You can return to work within 3–5 days.
The recovery from eyebrow transplantation is straightforward for the vast majority of patients. Understanding each phase eliminates worry and sets clear expectations.
Monthly Trimming Note: From Month 3 onward, your transplanted brow hair will require monthly trimming to maintain the designed shape. This is because transplanted scalp-origin follicles grow at scalp rate (~1cm/month), faster than native brow hair. Trimming takes 2–3 minutes and can be done at home with small brow scissors or at any beauty salon. Your surgeon will demonstrate at your Month 3 follow-up.
Following these aftercare guidelines carefully in the first 14 days significantly improves graft survival and final result quality.
Detailed written aftercare instructions are provided at discharge. Our patient care team is reachable by phone and email 7 days a week during your recovery period.
